The lesson about walls that are not cover
The ability arrives in the Bomberman-like maze where Dude is trying to free Jimothy. When a bottle rebounds from hard flooring into brown composite, a hole opens ahead of it without the ordinary debris of something being smashed apart. The bottle passes through the first wall, then the next, and reaches an explosive charge. The resulting blast threatens Déjà Mew because Dude has wrongly assumed that brown blocks provide protection.
That mistake provides a practical distinction. The permanent pale pillars stop the maze's straight-line explosions; soft brown blocks do not. Swiss Cheese Physics changes the bottle's passage through penetrable material, not the whole room's rules. The hole is slightly wider than the bottle, and some material remains unaffected. It is an extraordinarily powerful option for someone whose primary equipment comes from the recycling bin, but it is not a general permission to ignore cover, structural supports or the safety of companions behind a target.
The path matters more than the name
The maze lets Dude discover that the path can continue from a soft obstacle into an enemy. A bottle can emerge from composite and strike a plated creature; when Mirror splits a throw, both trajectories can exploit the same strange passage effect. The physical bottle still has to travel, collide and be recovered. Its remarkable penetration also carries the danger of reaching more than the intended victim.
Dude learns by testing, not by reading an infallible instruction sheet. The room's cameras prefer to replay his spectacular dive after an explosion as a flawless save rather than show the failed assumption that put Mew in danger. That difference between the scene the system wants and what happened is part of the ability's significance. Swiss Cheese Physics is spectacular because it works. It is interesting because it works even when the person using it has chosen a disastrously bad line.
Not every life keeps the same tool kit
Dude's unusual abilities do not all return together after death. In the early part of Book 1, he discovers a persistent Mirror effect but loses access to a later-earned sixth-hit improvement. After another death, he similarly notices what it means to be without the penetration effect and must regain it. The remembered procedure may remain in his hands even when the supernatural result does not.
That makes the evolving tool kit as important as the name on any single rule. The effect has a history: Dude discovers it, learns its limits and finds that another life may leave him without it. None of that establishes it as a permanent possession. A wall that was easy yesterday can be an ordinary, solid wall in the next life.
