Book 1
Black armor and riveted jaws
Dude names the runners for their black armor and riveted appearance. Four of them move toward the workbench route from different positions: one comes directly, while others slip around a composite divider and through a service slit. The movement feels coordinated, and the workbench suddenly offers fewer safe directions.
They look and behave differently from Attention's camera-bearing hounds and the Auditor's intake frames. The dungeon has more than one way of sending machinery after somebody.
Six joints and a fast commitment
The hounds move like engineered animals with armor and vulnerable internals. One commits to a straight charge while others use cover; a precise bottle attack damages plating, wiring and a shoulder without instantly disabling the opponent. Their bodies illustrate the difference between punching through material and actually stopping a moving target. They are dangerous partly because Dude’s new effects can succeed physically while failing tactically.
A field test with consequences
The first scene demonstrates Swiss Cheese Physics passing a bottle through the composite divider into a hound behind it. Mirror complicates the strike; it is not a general-purpose promise that all enemies behind walls become harmless. Dude’s subsequent choices depend on retrieval, rebound angle, movement and the possibility of leaving the next approach uncovered. This encounter belongs to the dungeon’s ordinary territorial hazards, not a confirmed grand conspiracy.
